About Me

Hi, my name is Sarah Goldstein! I am a senior at Vanderbilt University majoring in Biomedical Engineering with minors in Data Science and Engineering Management. I am passionate about advancing personalized medicine and exploring how software engineering, artificial intelligence, and data-driven technologies can transform industries such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology. I am equally drawn to the operational side of innovation—optimizing systems and organizations, managing complexity, and supporting the design and execution of clinical trials that bring new therapies to patients.

My journey in STEM began early when I co-founded Stemology for Kids, a nonprofit that engages young students interested in science through hands-on, environmentally focused experiments and interactive lessons. Since then, I have pursued opportunities at the intersection of science, technology, and operations.

At AbbVie, I worked as an Operations Engineering Intern on the Facilities team within Manufacturing, Engineering, & Contracting. I worked on a robust cleanroom expansion project and R&D trial, applying Lean manufacturing principles and data analytics to improve workflows and support manufacturing processes. In the Giorgio Laboratory at Vanderbilt, I researched injectable biomaterials for cancer immunotherapy, developing cryogel-based delivery systems to reprogram tumor-associated macrophages. During my NSF summer research program at the University of Chicago, I investigated interorgan signaling pathways to understand how inflammation influences systemic responses. At General Motors, I built a Python-based computer vision system for LiDAR and camera sensor validation in autonomous vehicles, improving calibration accuracy and collaborating in an Agile environment to deliver scalable solutions.

Beyond academics, I am actively involved in leadership and community initiatives. I serve as the Professional Development Chair for the Society of Women Engineers, previously led as the Philanthropy & Service Chair, and am the Director of Outreach for Chabad at Vanderbilt. I also participate in Kappa Delta, Kappa Theta Pi Tech Fraterntiy, and Tikkun Olam Makers. These roles have strengthened my skills in strategic planning, cross-functional leadership, and community engagement, while allowing me to contribute meaningfully to causes I care about.

Outside of my academic and professional work, I love to explore new cities through their food, culture, and hiking trails. I’m also an avid dog lover, folk/indie music enthusiast, baker, and word puzzle fan, plus I’m always looking for my next good book!
